SPANISH WELLS
Spanish Wells is a picturesque town of approximately 1,000
people located about 15 minutes from Eleuthera (via the ferry). Upon arriving
in Spanish Wells, visitors are impressed with the brightly painted homes, the
pink and white sand beaches and the friendly nature of the locals. The town got
its name from the Spanish explorers who proclaimed this area as having the best
water in the Bahamas. Back then it was all well water, hence the name Spanish
Wells.
During your day excursion to Spanish Wells, you can choose
to tour the area on foot or for an exciting change of pace, you can rent a golf
cart right at the harbour and ride around town Tiger Woods style. While
visiting Spanish Wells, you will find commercial outfits that offer diving,
snorkeling and fishing trips. Please feel free to contact Woody at
Bahamas
Vacation Guide for your reef fishing, bone fishing, snorkeling and other
water-related needs.
In
Spanish Wells there are two well-stocked supermarkets, two bakeries, five
restaurants and several variety stores where you can buy fresh conch, local fish
and lobster. This town offers some of the best homemade bread and Johnny
Cake that you will ever eat. Spanish Wells also boasts the Red Lobster
chain as one of its biggest Bahamian lobster shipment clients.
Harbour
Island
Harbour Island is
approximately 2 square miles in size. It is accessible from mainland Eleuthera
via private ferry ($4 each way). Harbour Islands offers pink sand beaches, a
wide array of watersports, a fine selection of eateries and great island
shopping.
There is much to see and do in Harbour Island.
While visiting Harbour Island you should head to the northern coast to see
Dunmore Town. Dunmore Town is the oldest settlement in the Bahamas. There
are many colorful New England style cottages throughout the town and plenty of
unique shops. Other noteworthy sites are Loyalist Cottage, which is the oldest
home on the island and St John’s Anglican Church (1768) and Wesley Methodist
Church (1848). Titus Hole Cave is a fun place to explore. It is said that
Titus Hole was the first jail on Harbour Island.

You can catch water taxis from the north to Harbour Island and Spanish Wells or take the BoHengy
to Nassau for a change of pace.
NASSAU
Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas.
When in Nassau, the place to be is New Providence. A person can have a

to the Straw Market. The Straw Market is an excellent place to bargain
for local crafts and keepsakes and a great way to meet great people.
Nature lovers should visit the Nassau
Botanic Gardens and the Ardastra Gardens and Conservation Centre, which is
